Tier 1 – Entrepreneur visa


 

Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) is for non-European migrants who want to invest in the UK by setting up or taking over, and being actively involved in the running of, a business or businesses here. As with the other categories of the Tier 1 UK visa, candidates applying as entrepreneurs do not need to have a sponsor in place. However, applicants must still meet a range of specific criteria.

Requirements:


  1. the applicant has set up or taken over a British business.
  2. To qualify for a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa under the UK points-based system, applicants must score a minimum of 95 points for attributes including investment funds, English language and maintenance (available funds).
  3. The funds must be held in a regulated financial institution and be disposable in the UK. Provided you meet the required points including competent English language capacity (e.g. holding your degree taught in English) and have access of sufficient cash funds in UK (either from the main applicant, gift from third party OR together with 1 more joint equity shareholder/partner)
  4. To score points for investment funds, applicants must have access to not less than:



  • £200,000; or
  • £50,000 from a registered venture capital firm or funding endorsed by UK Trade and Investment or a UK government department.


 Visa holder entitlements:


  • A Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa entitles the holder to live and run their business in the UK. A Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa is usually granted for an initial period of up to three (3) years and extensions may be granted.
  • Spouses and unmarried children under 18 years of age may be included on the visa application to accompany their spouse or parent to the UK.
  • The Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa may lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) which entitles individuals to permanent residency in the UK.
  • The main and all secondary applicants (spouse and children) enjoy FREE medical and primary/high schools once visa is granted.
  • The visa holder has to reside in UK at least 180 days in a year.


Fast-track to settlement:

In order to encourage more business activity in Britain, UK immigration authorities offer entrepreneurs a fast-track to permanent settlement. This is available to anyone who can either create 10 jobs or turn over more than £5 million in a three-year period. The fast-track initiative will allow entrepreneurs to permanently settle in the UK in as little as three years.
